As a new season of the greatest game approaches, general managers are on the phone trying to fill needs, field managers are scribbling lineups of whom they have, and who they hope to have, and fans are left to wonder what is on the horizon. With the winter meetings just days away, that means one thing; Spring Training is just around the corner.
More specifically, the San Diego Padres have been in the news as of late, although it hasn’t been due to acquisitions. The Padres will have a new general manager in 2012 (Josh Byrnes) as Jed Hoyer will once again be working under Theo Epstein, this time in Chicago with the Cubs instead of the Red Sox. And the Padres lone all star of last year, closer Heath Bell, is ticketed to be pitching the ninth inning for the Miami Marlins.

  Sports are not about the X’s and O’s, but about the athletes and their stories. As you look deeper you learn about the personalities, the perseverance, the failures and even the self destructive. This is what peaks my interest, and this is why I chose the profession of sports broadcasting.   

 Thanks for stopping by. My name is Judson Richards, and I’ve built this site in hopes of creating an easy way to learn about me, and hear some of my work.

I became ensconced in the world of sports through the game of baseball.  I lived a portion of my dream when I was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2004. As a fifth year senior from an NAIA school, Point Loma Nazarene University, the chance of the phone ringing was not good. But surprisingly, it did. For a boy who learned the nuances of baseball from his father, nothing gave me greater pleasure than to call my dad and deliver the news. It will forever be one of the greatest joys of my life.

  But the dream did not last long. Three years later I was out of affiliate ball, and struggling to find a roster spot in independent baseball. It was time to move on. With a Communication degree, but no experience in the field I desired to work, I returned to school. Earning credits through the Ohio Center for Broadcasting, Colorado Campus, I completed internships with Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain and KOA 850.

  My first break came from KLST-TV in San Angelo, TX as a weekend sports anchor. Since then I have had an opportunity to call independent and Triple-A baseball, co-host a sports talk show, broadcast college basketball and baseball athletics, produce and host AHL Hockey, and I feel  so blessed for every opportunity provided to me.
